Leadwood Police Chief Jerry E. Hicks died of injuries he suffered five days earlier when his patrol car slid on ice and struck a tree. Hicks had been driving a Leadwood police car on his way to pick up an inmate crew at 6:30 a.m. on Route 8 near the town of Hopewell when his car slid on an icy bridge and struck a tree along Missouri Highway 8 near Railroad Road suffering a head injury. Hicks followed his son into joining law enforcement a few years after Jerry Jr. became a sheriff’s deputy. |
