Public input is essential in effort to make Missouri’s Code of State Regulations for 6 DPS divisions, Office of the Director and Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Program clearer, up to date and efficient
The Department of Public Safety will hold a public hearing tomorrow, Thursday, July 13, to get suggestions from the public on how to streamline the department’s administrative rules. The goal is to make the rules clearer and more concise, and to increase the efficiency of the regulations of six department divisions, the department’s central management unit and the program that licenses and disciplines peace officers.

Sections of the Missouri Code of State Regulations deal with these Department of Public Safety divisions and are all under review: Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control, Division of Fire Safety, Missouri Gaming Commission, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri National Guard, Missouri Veterans Commission, the department’s Office of the Director, and the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Program, which is part of the Office of the Director.
The Department will also hold a second public hearing to allow interested Missourians to comment in person. That hearing, on July 20, will also be from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Lewis and Clark State Office Building’s LaCharrette/Nightingale Creek Conference Room.
Also, today, Gov. Eric Greitens announced the launch of a website, www.NoMORedTape.com, for Missourians to submit recommendations for action to cut government red tape.
To make it easier for the public to review and comment on DPS division regulations, DPS has created a webpage that includes all of the divisions with regulations to be reviewed, links to the current rules in the Code of State Regulations and an online comment tab that simplifies the review process for interested citizens. The rules review webpage is at: http://dps.mo.gov/rulereview/. It can also be accessed from the Department of Public Safety homepage: http://dps.mo.gov/. Just click on the “Administrative Rule Review” tab.

The Department of Public Safety public comment period is scheduled to close on Aug. 31, 2017.
In addition, the Missouri Gaming Commission has two scheduled public hearings, for July 18 and Aug. 1. Both hearings will be held at MGC headquarters, 3417 Knipp Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65102 beginning at 9 a.m. These public hearings are only for comments on administrative rules that involve the Missouri Gaming Commission.
