Corporal Adam McAtee, a special victims investigator with the Missouri State Highway Patrol,  is the June DPS Sworn Team Member of the Month for his tireless efforts to locate a child who Minnesota investigators believed was being sex trafficked by a Missouri man.

In November 2024, a Minnesota officer reached out to Adam to report that evidence showed a man arrested in that state was communicating with a Missouri man about sex trafficking a child. The child’s identity was not known. Adam quickly identified the Missouri suspect, but the child victim’s identity eluded him. Eventually, Adam’s investigation located a different child victim of exploitation. Adam did not give up. Adam put together a multi-agency team to serve a search warrant at home in the Kansas City area. The search revealed a second child victim of sexual exploitation.

Adam’s persistence paid off when, with the help of facial recognition software and online photo albums, the original child victim was tracked to Georgia, where officers located and rescued the exploited child.

In all, Adam’s fine yearlong investigation led to two arrests and three exploited children being located. The two suspects have each been charged in federal indictments in the Western District of Missouri.

The Department of Public Safety has named the State Emergency Management Agency’s Angie Henderson as the June DPS Non-Sworn Team Member of the Month for the outstanding balancing act she has carried out over the last year. Beginning in early 2025, SEMA has dealt with multiple disaster requests, five federal disaster declarations and the unprecedented task of managing a private property debris removal program for the first time. Angie’s work has been and continues to be essential in meeting all of these challenges.

When the Federal Emergency Management Agency rejected Missouri’s request for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer to manage a private property debris removal program in St. Louis following the May 16, 2025 EF-3 tornado, working with the Missouri Office of Administration, Angie played a critical role implementing the state program built from scratch by SEMA and OA. This work has involved meeting many regulatory burdens and overcoming complicated issues working with the City of St. Louis Recovery Office, contractors, FEMA and other interested parties. Angie has met these obligations by working evening and weekends without complaint.

Angie also plays a crucial role in efforts to boost SEMA team members’ morale as a leading member of SEMA’s Employee Activity Committee. In this role, Angie volunteers her time to help with many team-building activities and special events.

Angie proves her value as a self-starter and professional each day through her ability to anticipate and navigate project roadblocks, by supporting SEMA colleagues and outside project partners, and by acting with compassion for the disaster survivors SEMA serves.

Congratulations to both Team Members of the Month! You have set an outstanding example for your co-workers throughout the Department of Public Safety.
