Comments: Fernau, 44, was injured in March 2003 when he fell down a flight of concrete stairs in pursuit of an intruder. He returned to work in November 2003 but lost his job due to the injuries in May 2004. He wanted to be a police officer again and underwent two surgeries to have a spinal cord stimulator implanted but died on the day following the second surgery.
