Homeland Security Grant Funding Opportunity for Missouri Nonprofit Organizations at Risk of Terrorist Attack

Application Deadline: June 4, 2018; Total Grant Funds Available: $200,000

A late federal appropriation means Missouri nonprofit organizations considered to be at high risk of a terrorist attack have until June 4, 2018 to complete applications for a federal grant that would pay for physical security enhancements. A total of only $200,000 is available for the state of Missouri, excluding the St. Louis metropolitan area, which is eligible for funding through a separate federal grant program.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety, Office of Homeland Security is seeking applications for the 2018 Fiscal Year Nonprofit Security Grant Program - State (NSGP-S) from eligible nonprofit organizations. The grant promotes emergency preparedness coordination and collaboration activities between public and private community representatives as well as state and local government agencies. Churches, mosques and synagogues are among those eligible to apply for the competitive grants. The maximum grant award to an approved grantee is $75,000.

“This is a unique opportunity for this federal grant that had not been available outside of major metropolitan areas in the U.S.,” Department of Public Safety Director Drew Juden said. “While the funds are limited to $200,000, we want to spread the word quickly across Missouri since the late appropriation and the holiday weekend mean that potentially at risk nonprofit organizations must work expeditiously to complete the application process in time to meet the June 4 deadline.”

Allowable grant costs include planning, equipment, exercises, maintenance and sustainment and training.

For more information and to apply, nonprofit organizations that are described under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (IRC) and exempt from tax under section 501(a) of such code should go to: Those considering applying for the grants with questions should contact Theresa Stiles at (573) 301-2023 or Joni McCarter at (573) 526-9020.
